Silence is Salvation
Allah and His Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم love the excellent characteristic of remaining silent over vain speech and have exhorted the believers to adopt this exemplary trai. And indeed, one of the beautiful qualities of a believer is that he only speaks good otherwise he remains silent. Unfortunately, in this day and age, we have adopted an un-Islamic approach to this sphere of life and taken on board the maxim'... words will never hurt...'
As a result of this, we deem the deeds of the tongue as being insignificant in comparison to other deeds whereas the reality is that the tongue can lead one to paradise or hell. This talk also outlines the manner, conditions and circumstances in which we have been instructed to speak by the Quran and Sunnah. |
Me, Myself and I
None of you has truly believed, until he desires for his brother, that which he desires for himself’ declared the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم . One can never hope to attain Taqwa (fear of Allah سبحانه و تعالى ) and be truly successful in religion until one adopts and practices selflessness. Islam has placed a great emphasis on the spirit of sacrifice within many of it's teachings. It is however, a sad fact that many Muslims have adopted the selfish ills of the non-Muslims.

Satanic Whispers
As humans we are all victims of the satanic onslaught of evil and insidious thoughts. Only the Prophets عليهم السلام have been granted immunity and protection from shaytan’s whispers. Such thoughts can range from satanic whispers during our salaah, to questions regarding predestination. The aim of these satanic whispers needs to be understood. Their purpose is to deter one from the remembrance and worship of Allah سبحانه و تعالى . A cure for these whispers is contained therein. |
Islamic Education in the West
The importance of Islamic education and learning is emphasised especially with regards to women. The responsibility incumbent on a believer in spreading the message of Allah and His Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم is outlined, as well as the possible consequences if we fail to collectively take part in fulfilling this responsibility. Part of this duty involves making various forms of sacrifices including financial. The virtues and blessings of spending in the way of Allah, as outlined in the Quran and ahaadeeth are elucidated in the latter part of the talk.

Sins of the Tongue in Perspective
Unfortunately many Muslims today have adopted the non-Islamic thinking of the kuffar “sticks and stones break bones words never hurt”. Hence the sins of the tongue are belittled when in fact Islam holds them a degree higher than the sins of the flesh. A number of examples are taken from the ahadith in support of this. Sins such as murder, theft, adultery etc are frowned upon as these are abhorred by the society we live in, however sins such as backbiting, lying, dishonouring another person etc are viewed as being of much lesser evil. The tongue can lead one to fall flat on ones face in hell and we are continuously reminded to safeguard this bodily organ lest it be the cause of our destruction! |
Steadfastness in the Face of Adversity
It is far easier to begin something and to stop than it is to see it through to its end. Similarly in religion people worship Allah سبحانه و تعالى when they are in need or when they are happy but the moment a calamity was to befall them or their need is fulfilled, they become removed from the remembrance of Allah سبحانه و تعالى . Why has the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم likened the believer to be like the sturdy palm tree and the hypocrite to be like a bushy tree?. The answer to this as well as some essential advice is contained therein.

Throughout history, the gift of divine knowledge has rescued humanity from the pits of darkness. In the modern age we once again witness the need of reviving the disciplines in attempting to acquire this lofty branch of understanding that ultimately forms the basis of our religion. |
